I'd try a wash/soak in a solution of something like "Nature's Miracle", or another enzyme-based deodorant. If it works for cat urine, human pee should be no problem!

Yep. Penguin wash works too, or a vinegar/mild detergent solution ... I've heard good things about OxyClean or similar, but never tried it.

bro if u don't care about 2-5min then why race?

stay home "race" your training routes and be happy with it!

I wear my left stinky biking shoes with honor and dignity :P

Some people do this for the sheer fun of it. Everyone's goals are equally as valid.

I've done it twice - once during HIM training to assure myself that I could do it in a race if I needed to, and once during the race.

My training session pee taught me that my road cycling shoes DO NOT DRAIN. I used this knowledge carefully in my HIM.

Holy crap.  I can't believe where this thread has gone, but obviously I have neglected that part of my tri training!  I have had a good ab work out as well from laughing at all of this.  The things endurance athletes do....never say never apparently Tongue out

epcopres - 2012-04-08 8:51 AM I would hate to be the guy riding behind the person when they had to pee.

At IMCdA I was going down a hill behind and to the side of a guy.  I start to see this liquid coming from his bike and thought he spilled some water from a bottle.  Then I realize he's peeing.  He never looked back to see who might be behind him.

Now we are NOWHERE NEAR qualifying (he's in my AG).  I was far enough to the side to not get hit but if I did I would have added "kicking someone's " as the 4th discipline.

I don't care if you pee on yourself during a race.  But pee on me and you had sure as hell be faster than me...

That made me giggle.

What if the offender is a chick?  That story had me so grossed out, I easily recalled it from 7 years ago.

Just a bit of advice... if you are traveling by car to a race, and pee on the bike....  don't throw your shoes in a bag afterward thinking "I'll get to them eventually after some food and a couple beers," sleep overnight, and drive 5 hours home in warm temps.

ew.

Did you try the wash machine?

I did try the washing machine. And a bucket full of dawn detergent... Turns out dawn isn't as great as they say it is. I've got a great story about my two year old son, nap time, and a 12 oz container of vaseline. (Those oil spill commercials where they take the crude oil off with dawn are all lies! LIES I tell you! Goo Gone on the other hand.... ) I'll try the vinegar trick, and if that doesn't work, maybe I'll try the Goo Gone. At least IT smells better.

Tonight's post dinner pee was a reminder for me to make a PSA on here about bike peeing if you've consumed asparagus. The short version... Don't.

Wash bike shoes in dishwasher to remove smell take insoles out open them facing down, wash them with dishwashing soap, and remove them prior to dry cycle. Put newspaper in shoes to absorb water. If you have a shoe/boot drier use that if not put in the sun to dry.

Running shoes I wash without insoles and again use newspaper and boot drier.

Those of you new to tris the concept seems odd. Doing a sprint or oly for most they can urinate on the swim and be fine rest of the race. Longer races it becomes an issue. Porta Pottys are not always available when you need to use one.

It takes practice.....many need to stop to urinate while swimming; down hill coasting on the bike is easiest and yes check behind you for other athletes and remove your water bottle,  rinse with water bottle; run go before aid station and splash/dump water on your crotch as you go through the aid station.

If you have to go and are trying to hold it, can negatively effect your race. Urine is sterile when it comes out of your body.
