Pre-race routine:

Had typical coffee, bagel and hard-boiled egg. Took banana, peanuts and Gatorade water to have before race start.
Event warmup:

Was running a little late getting to the site, but still did pre-race stretch clinic. Always a good idea.
Run
  • 1h 05m 36s
  • 7.1 miles
  • 09m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Miles in 9:09, 9:00, 8:58, 8:58, 9:32, 10:08, 9:46 (1.1 mile segment).
During mile 5, knew was getting overheated thus ran thru all water sprinklers to cool down and drink some water at all water stops.
Overall, while had wanted a better time, it was a better run that previous summer Falmouth run. Last year 1:11:53, and I was sick at end from over-exhaustion. So, six minutes better and feeling good at end was good. Enjoyed some of race route, and felt good enough to hang around fields for a couple hours after race.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe take my two water "fuel belt" along.
Post race
Warm down:

Iced down right calf immediately after race. It had started to hurt at about mile 5. 5-10 minutes of icing it down - melted the ice to water in that time - relieved the pain.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Some pain in right calf. But even without the pain, probably ran about as good as could've on this day.

Event comments:

Very well-run race. Lots of volunteers. Only wish water available at very end of race rather than walking half-mile (or so it seemed) to get fresh water.

Performance: Good
Running a quick 10k earlier this year gave me a good qualifying time to move up and start near the front of the race pack. Allowed me to run at my own pace for the race, without fighting through as much of the crowd.
Course: Hilly course, especially the final hill after the 6-mile mark. Also difficult because miles 3-4-5 were along the ocean edge and very hot and sunny.
