took kristy and the kids, packed the camper, made a weekend of the race at scales lake park
Event warmup:

didn't even think about changing from EDT to CDT, so i was an hour early for 6am registration.. could have used the extra hour sleep.

no time prior to the race to see what the course looked like. was pretty slick, lots of roots & ruts, so i was pretty cautious on the downhills and off camber stuff.

had to walk a lot of the hills, my boots were soaked from sweat, water & mud, felt like they weighed 5 lbs each. the last .3M felt as long and hard as the first 3 miles.

Course: two 5.5 mile laps around the lake. very technical, lot's of on and off the bike to push / pull up and down the hills, rocks, trees, etc. had to stop at the transition and change from my tennis shoes to boots... somehow tore the sole of my tennis shoe off.
