Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 7am to get ready for the race. Managed to sleep well the night before. Had a banana and a Power Bar before leaving home. Before the start of the race, finished 2/3 of the Accelerate.
Event warmup:

Easy cycle from home @ Bedok Reservoir to East Coast. It is about 5km. Did some stretching before the race starts.
Run
  • 55m 2s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 30s  min/km
Comments:

Managed to run at a constant pace that I am usually accustomed to for 10km run. It was a good run. Didn't want to exert too much and tried to reserve some energy for the cycling leg.
Transition 1
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

Transition was good. Turn on the bike computer, put on helmet and gloves and had a pack of Power Gel, drink some water and off I go. It was a smooth transition. I guess everything is arranged properly at the transition area and I sort of walk through in my mind before reaching the transition area on what I need to do. So it goes on as planned.
Bike
  • 1h 18m 7s
  • 36 kms
  • 27.65 km/hr
Comments:

1st and 2nd lap was ok. But the AeroDrink water spillage stopper popped out from the bottle at the hump and the water keep splashing on my face. Find that my energy start to drain on the 3rd lap. 4th lap was endurance. I tried to push and not let the speed drop too much.

Max Speed 35.3km/h

What would you do differently?:

Should secure the water spillage stopper with rubber band.

Need to do more long distance cycling to improve stamina on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

When I tried to brake to stop the bike, there was a jolt. Almost got a cramp on my right calf. But managed to recover, pushed and run along with the bike to the transition area. Grab the Hammer Gel and run out of the transition area and eat the gel at the same time.
What would you do differently?:

Stop the bike smoothly but otherwise, the transition was great!
Run
  • 25m 39s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 08s  min/km
Comments:

Managed to maintain a constant pace almost throughout this run leg. Managed to overtake a few people along the way. This definitely help to boost my morale. For the last 500m, I started to open up and sprint in the last 200m to the finishing line.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around to catch my breath. Felt the pain on my shoulder intensify again. Tried to massage the shoulder.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training in particular cycling. Would try to improve my performance next year with better timing and more training. Considering that this is my first Duathlon, I thought I did better than expected. I know that I could have done much better if I have more cycling experience, but only got my bike in November and trying to get used to the bike was the first hurdle I have to overcome. To have come this far was a great experience and a big lap for myself.

Event comments:

Overall it was a great experience with the Triathlon family of athletes in Singapore. Although I am only starting to pick up this sport, I think so far I did great in completing the races with almost no injuries.
