Overall Rank = 67/140
Age Group = 40-49
Age Group Rank = 12/19
Pre-race routine:

Got up around 4:45. Had 2 cups of coffee, and some oatmeal with egg protein. Had Transition bag ready to go from night before. Didn't sleep too well. Worried about chance of rain. Pulled my back the day before.
Event warmup:

Got there early. Event started at 8. We got there about 6:45. T areas were premarked which worked out well for me since it was a good spot. Got marked and had a cup of coffee. Got wetsuit on about 20 min before event. Stretched a little, but in hindsight needed to do more. Talked to people I new.
Swim
  • 13h 37m
  • 547 yards
  • 2h 29m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

Went off course initially and had to adjust thus adding time. Took a while to get breathing down and form wasn't best. First Tri so I was anxious.
What would you do differently?:

Sight MUCH better, watch form more.
Transition 1
  • 02m 59s
Comments:

Slow T1 time IMO. No really sure why, but maybe wasted time with talking bike off rack, getting shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

Practice T times more.
Bike
  • 40h 00m
  • 12.4 miles
  • 0.31 mile/hr
Comments:

This time wasn't registered for whatever reason. I can only go by my stopwatch which I started in T1. Felt like I did well but my calfs were beginning to cramp bad. Bike has only 7 speeds on rear and lack of gearing may have been a factor.
What would you do differently?:

More hydration leading up to race, spinning more in lower gear to prevent leg cramps.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

T2 time is a guess since my chip didn't read right during the bike or T2. Went to get off bike and my calfs and hamstrings COMPLETELY locked up on me to the point that I could hardly walk! Tried to run but that was a fail. walked out of T2 then stopped and tried to work out cramps. Decided to lightly jog.
What would you do differently?:

Beter hydration? More spinning prior to bike dismount? I need to investigate as to why I cramped SO bad.
Run
  • 10h 56m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 3h 30m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Had to look down most of the course. Breathing was very good. Leg cramps began to work out by 1/4 mile in but had to be careful since they always felt like they were on the edge of cramping. Conditioning proved to be decent since I passed many people and was passed only by a few.
What would you do differently?:

Not much other than I need to diagnose why I had leg cramps so bad.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a lot, talked to people I knew

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Leg cramps! Other than that race jitters right before it started.

Event comments:

Not a fan of trail running, but the event was close to me and knew the bike portion well.
