Pre-race routine:

The day before the event I was at the event site to see the layout. On Sunday morning, got up at 7:45am and had 2 bananas and 1 cup of MILO to start the day. Went to the venue only at around 10am as the event starts at 11:20am.
Event warmup:

Cycled about 1km from the carpark to the event site. Set up my bicycle and transition. Familiarise myself with the position of the bike in transition.

Abt 30 mins before the event starts, I had a dip in the water to warm up for the swim leg
Swim
  • 35m 7s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 20s / 100 meters
Comments:

Water was very choppy. Most of the time I was doing breast stroke as I was not able to swim properly in the choppy water. As much as possible i would switch back to front crawl. After the first lap of the swim, I realised that the HR monitor did not register my HR. Saw the timing, it was about 16mins. I was quite surprise with the timing. Was expecting myself to do worst. The 2nd wave was not better. Had a lot of difficulty swimming in the choppy sea.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

The transition area is far from the beach. Jogged slowly once out of the water. Was rushing to put on my stuff and noticed that other participants were chit chatting away at the transition. Had a Powergel before I start my cycling phase.
What would you do differently?:

Getting on the bike to start the bike race was clumsy. Could have improved on that with more practice.
Bike
  • 1h 32m 25s
  • 40 kms
  • 25.97 km/hr
Comments:

The cycling leg was ok but it was hot and some parts of the cycling path is narrow. Felt that I could have done better with the cycling computer showing me the speed. Saw someone crashed on the 1st leg. Stop the bike to take Powergel after the 2nd leg. But feel that energy seems to run out half way through even though I had 2 Powergels already.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more swim to bike transition. Do longer distance training and maintain a high bike cadence.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition was smoother this time.
Run
  • 58m 17s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 50s  min/km
Comments:

Running was initially very slow. Took a while to pick up speed. The first leg was done in about 31mins. The U-turn was not very obvious. I almost rushed to the finishing line instead of doing a U-turn. I wanted to finished the run in less than 1 hour but I was not certain if I could do it. When I was almost reaching the finishing line, I heard them playing Shakira's Hip Don't Lie. I felt very hyper and decided to dash my last breath but I bump into some people who were doing a U-turn. I picked up my speed again and finished the run in less than 1 hour.
What would you do differently?:

Do more transition training from cycling to running.
Post race
Warm down:

Did not do any warm down. Had a bottle of H2O

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Insufficient training for transition. HR monitor would have been helpful to guide effort during running phase but it malfunction thus was not able to use that as a gauge. The cycling phase, the speedometer malfunction thus was in the dark about the speed. It felt like a blind man without a walking aid.

Event comments:

The course has too many sharp corners which need to slow down. The Swim starts only at 11:20pm (that is when the water was choppy).

The HR is still not registering the HR. Felt quite frustrated by it. Then after the 1st lap of the cycling leg, the bike computer fail to register the speed. Every electronic equipment seems to failed on me today.
