Pre-race routine:

Had a banana, a yogurt and a granola bar in the AM. Got to the race parking early. Rode my bike down to the race site (about 1 1/2 miles). Got my race chip and racked my bike. Spent some time taking in the whole set up. Went to the beach did some stretching and some light warm ups (skips, etc).
Event warmup:

I wasn't really sure what to do here. I swam for a few min. Next time I need to put more thought into the warm up.
Swim
  • 11m 4s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was in the beginner's wave which was mixed in with the elite wave. I went right up to the front right side of the wave, behind the elites and went out too fast. I was winded by the time we hit the first bouy. I did the breast stroke for about 1/2 of the race and then crawled in from the second bouy.
What would you do differently?:

Start further back in the wave, and not rush my stroke at first. Take my time to make a better overall time.
Transition 1
  • 02m 48s
Comments:

I need work here. I probably stood up too soon in the water. On the beach I walked out, took off my cap and goggles, held them in my right hand, unzipped and peeled my suit down to my waste, keeping my googles and cap in the sleeve. I jogged to my transition spot, took off my suit. Put on my socks, and shoes, helmet and glasses, and walked my bike to the mounting point. Mounted and went
What would you do differently?:

Probably have my socks rolled up so I can put them on quicker. Work on getting my suit off quicker.
Bike
  • 37m 12s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.35 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt strong. I passed 6 or 7 guys on the bike. Noone passed me. I really felt good. Was in my aero bars a lot.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

My bike shoes are road bike shoes and have a ski like strap on the top. I can't get into them like tri bike shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Use lace locks.
Run
  • 23m 56s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 07m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Considering my hip was bothering me I did OK. I had a lot left in the end. I think that cardio wise I could have gone faster. Biomechanically I couldn't pull it off especially on the downhills.
What would you do differently?:

With a better hip I'd really push it. I think that I could drop 3 min off the run pace!
Post race
Warm down:

Some stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Injured hip

Event comments:
