Pre-race routine:

I picked up my brother at 5:30, at the race site by 5:50. I had a small bowl of oatmeal and gatoraid for breakfast at about 5am and had an non-caffinated gel about 20 minutes before the race.
Event warmup:

I swam about 100 meters before the race. It was only about 45 degrees when the race started. The water was much warmer than the air temp.
Swim
  • 30m 48s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

I swam faster than my last race and I think the course was about the same length. I started out slow and built speed as I went. I slowed down a bit the last portion of the race, I was getting some chaffing on my neck.
What would you do differently?:

Body glide my neck, I've never had problems there before
Transition 1
  • 05m 41s
Comments:

I passed about 7 people in transition. I was able to run up the beach and get my wetsuit off easily. I need to get some tri shoes, my shoes with the boa system aren't very easy to get on, they are easy to get off though.
Bike
  • 1h 17m 46s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.17 mile/hr
Comments:

I think I could have pushed a little harder, my HR dropped some on the second loop, the legs felt very fresh starting the run. It was still cold, I was glad I put on a dry top to start the ride. I couldn't feel my feet during any of the ride.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder on the flats.
Transition 2
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

I forgot to take a gel with me and my shoes didn't want to go on, maybe it was because I couldn't feel my feet.
Run
  • 56m 31s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

My run felt great. I probably could have pushed harder while on the dam and start my kick a little sooner. I had a gel at mile 2. No cramps or pain. I started to feel my feet again at by 1.5 and noticed that I had a few rocks in my left shoe, but they didn't cause any damage.
What would you do differently?:

Run harder, I tried to not look at my HR, but I would have pushed harder if I had. I wanted to run more by feel.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat with the family and waited for the rest of my family to come in.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I still need to lose about 40 pounds

Event comments:

This is the 4th time I've done this event. It seems they are getting a little cheaper every time. I really like this race because it is a great course and close to my home. The transition area was a joke, bikes everywhere, not enough racks. It didn't look like there were any sponsors. Maybe the small turnout was caused by the poor weather.
