Pre-race routine:

I have done lots of Triathlons but never an Xterra. I have some experience in riding single track mountain bike but am not an expert.
The night before we had a good time at the Two Rivers Car show so i got in a little late.
I got to the event at 6am which was actually super early but i got to park about 50 yards away from my transition which was great. Put the race number on my bike and racked up. Took a look around. It was raining and i knew that was going to make the bike difficult on those slippery roots.
This is only the third year doing it and they said it grows by about 30 a year. There were 54 in the sprint and 84 in the full. I was worried about the lenght of the full on so i tried the sprint first this year. I had come alone but i found 1 lady i knew from the Manitowoc area so talked to her for a while. The rain finally stopped about 20 mins before the 8am start. The sprint had an 8.20am start. They didnt have anyone to sing the national anthem but i still thought it was a well run event. Its a USAT so if your not a member there is a 1 day fee for $12

Event warmup:

We stood around in the water and noticed all the fish swimming around. Very cool!
Swim
  • 13m 35s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim out felt something brushing against my legs. Thought it was netting at first but then i realized it was some kind of plants growing up from the bottom of the pond! A little freaky. Swim was fun. Got into a good grove. Got lapped by the people doing the the long course but that was ok. Went off course once. Drafted a faster guy for the last leg home.
What would you do differently?:

I felt fairly slow out there but my heart rate was up and my breathing was about at its limit.
Transition 1
  • 03m 6s
Comments:

seeing as i have never done an off road tri before i took extra time to put on socks and gloves.
I also forgot to mention that i was very dizzy in T1. I nearly fell over which slowed me down.
What would you do differently?:

I really would not of been comfortable with no socks
Bike
  • 57m 31s
  • 6 miles
  • 6.21 mile/hr
Comments:

My mountain bike single track skills are not the best but even worse when its wet. Ran up a few of the hills. The big plus here is i did not crash or DNF like i did 2 years ago at WORS.
NOT for the faint hearted!! So glad i did the sprint!!

What would you do differently?:

Practice the area a little more
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

Pretty quick. Nothing fancy. I started to run out with my gloves still on.
What would you do differently?:

Take my gloves off
Run
  • 25m 57s
  • 1.8 miles
  • 14m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

I fell over right in front of a lady at one point. I was fine though, nice soft ground. I did ok. I was so fascinated by the course i probably should have ran a little harder. By BPM stayed around 145-150. Again glad i only had to do 1 lap and not 3!
What would you do differently?:

Run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around got some fruit.
They had a $5 coupon included for the food truck which had really good food!!! Also they had a raffle and most people won something. I won an iphone bike case.
They had finishers Medals and i got a third place medal.
Really good value!

Event comments:

This was such a great race!!!! Only Xterra in Wisconsin! So much fun. They really made a great job of it. I really like Sat. Races as well. This is there 3rd year and it grows about 30 every year. I will be back!!!
