Overall Rank = 47/435
Age Group = Women
Age Group Rank = 5/221
Pre-race routine:

2nd time doing this distance on the Wednesday before the full distance on Saturday.
Goal, as usual was to beat previous time which was 1:09:25
Bigger race than usual so was not aiming for the podium as I do when I do small village races.
Event warmup:

My friend Ann came with me and had promised me a beer after the race. Fun to have someone with me for once although I do enjoy being on my own too. I’m easy like that.
Walked around the site, looked at the merchandise tents, didn’t buy anything.
No warm up other than some light stretching and a 20m swim.
Swim
  • 11m 11s
  • 520 meters
  • 02m 09s / 100 meters
Comments:

After being tumbled over at my last race, I started on the side and near the front and it went so much better. Very nice and smooth swim
Didn’t help though, I am still very slow at this.

7 secs faster than last year
What would you do differently?:

Take lessons? Train more?

Maybe I should warm up….
Transition 1
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

A nice T1, just I like them. Smooth and problem free.
Exactly same time as last year.
8th best time out of 435 participants.

Bike
  • 32m 36s
  • 18 kms
  • 33.13 km/hr
Comments:

I was surprised how fast I was, averaging 33k/h (I am normally around 30).

A very flat and fast course but still, 1:54 faster than last year.

“Raced” with 2 guys (Tommy and Staffan), we passed each other a few times. I beat Tommy but Staffan disappeared after the turn around.
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

Felt a little slow, had issues with one shoe but exactly the same time as last year so I guess it wasn’t slow.
Run
  • 19m 54s
  • 4 kms
  • 04m 58s  min/km
Comments:

Same as last race, very happy with the run, under 5k/h over 4km is new record.
1:03 faster than last year

The run is supposed to be 4.2k, in which case I averaged 4:44m/k but my watch stopped at 3.99 so I’ll stick with that.

What would you do differently?:

I have really improved on the run this year, gaining 15sec per km over 3k and 4k.
I was hoping to see if I could keep up that pace over 5k at my last race but it has been cancelled.
