Pre-race routine:

I was wide awake at 4am, tossed and turned for a bit then got up and ate. Met a group of friends in the gym parking lot to carpool. We got a great parking spot a few blocks from the race. Spent a while in port-potty lines- was well hydrated ;) Watched the marathon start then we all headed off to our different corralls.
Event warmup:

I wore some old clothes I didnt need anymore, then tossed them in the trash right before the start. Made sure to warm up my legs well, my quads dont like cold weather but the temp was already getting warmer by the 8:30 start.

Comments:

Started out pretty fast. My plan was to run around 1:45, keeping my pace right at 8 min/miles. Went through 5k at 24:32 but felt good so I thought I'd just try and hold that pace as long as I could, hit 10k at 48:04 and then got a sudden burst of energy at mile 8 which lasted about a mile. Started to feel a few aches at mile 11, but the finish was close. It was a fun race and great to do it with friends, the crowds were great too. I saw my husband and kids as I ran into Sun Devil Stadium.
Post race
Warm down:

Got my medal, chip removal and lots of food. Waited in the reunion area for my family and my friends, we figured out who was riding back with who then made the trek to the car. My husband managed to find a parking spot about 10 miles from the finish!!! Or at least thats what it felt like.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Maybe could have done a few more longer runs over the holidays.

Event comments:

Great race. I did this race 4 years ago in 2:11 so it was almost a 30 min PR for me! The half marathon is a fun distance, I should do it more! It also made me look forward to my marathon in June.
I'm glad I decided to do it, we finished off the day at a BBQ with the tri club- good food and good friends! :)
