Swim
Comments: Wow... The water was very choppy compared to last year but I managed not to freak out and kept on breathing just fine. I was a little off course a couple of times but that was because of all the red caps that I was taking for buoys while sighting through the waves. What would you do differently?: Nothing, I feel like I had a strong swim considering how choppy the lake was. Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit got stuck on the hells and the run from the swim exit to my transition spot was a bit long. 'Nuff said. Other than the 1st 40-44 woman out of the water (she IS really FAST!!!), the rest of us pretty much got to T1 at the same time. That was fun! What would you do differently?: More Bodyglide. Bike
Comments: A great bike segment for me on the hills, yay! I was worried about it a little but I felt really strong throughout. A first for me, I finished the contents of my Aerodrink bottle. I took the 4th spot out of 6 but once again, other than the 1st chick (and 2nd this time around), the rest of us pretty much had similar times. I held back a little though because I wanted to save my legs for the run. What would you do differently?: If I knew I was going suck that bad on the run, it would not have mattered if I would have hammered the bike. Therefore, I should not have held back. Transition 2
Comments: None, good transition for me even with putting my running socks on. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Even though I kept cool and hydrated, there was still no breakthrough there. I had a hard time finding my legs on the first half but by the time I did, the sun and heat got to me causing my heart rate to go haywire. I only walked through the aid stations, dousing myslef with two cups of water each time (4 total) plus stopping under the improvised shower neighborhood residents kindly set up half way between the aid stations (when through that one 4 times as well). I had my fuelbelt and sports drink with me because my stomach and HEED don't agree with each other. What would you do differently?: Lose weight and weight/strength training. Post race
Warm down: Walked around for a bit, got my post-race food, packed my stuff, stretched and hung out for the awards presentation and prize draw with fellow age grouper Stacey whom I admire for how she races and who is currently training for the Ironman World Championships (she won a lottery spot). What limited your ability to perform faster: Running is still a MAJOR issue and this is becoming quite frustrating. I do the long runs, speed and interval work but I just cannot bring myself to run faster when racing. Being short and carrying extra weight is certainly a problem when I'm on the vertical so I will dedicate the off season on losing quite a bit of tonnage and become a lot leaner for the 2009 season by focusing on eating clean, weight training and running. And I better stick to the plan because I told Stacey I would be lighter and leaner when she'll see me next year. Event comments: I missed my race goal by 9 minutes because of choppy waters and my lack of run kick. Nonetheless, I once again enjoyed racing in Cobourg and will do so again next year. It was a well organized race. Last updated: 2008-04-04 12:00 AM

I didn't sleep much, I was too excited about my race and upcoming brunch date on Sunday. I got out of bed at 4:15 AM, showered, had a breakfast pita with almond butter and a banana. I left home at 5:15, stopped at Tim Horton's in Whitby on my way to Cobourg for coffee and a bagel. Got to the race site, set my transition spot up (way way way far from the bike exit this year), picked up my race kit, got body marked and went to the port-a-potty.
Chatted with my other age group companions, did a little swim warm up followed by stretches.
