Pre-race routine:

We camped overnight at lake after going to spaghetti dinner that was put on by race organizers. When woke up drank water, oj, pop tart and yogurt. Then I started to get bike and other items set up in transition area.
Event warmup:

Walked around. When our wave got into the water I swam a bit to get adjusted.
Swim
  • 11m 59s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

I think that I focused a lot on the swim. I swam in the lake the night before to get comfortable with an ow swim. During the race I passed quite a few people. After I rounded the buoy, I think my pace was much better since there were less swimmers close by. I gained more confidence after this.
What would you do differently?:

Don't slow down before passing people.
Transition 1
  • 02m 7s
Comments:

I didn't realize that I took over 2 minutes in this transition. I guess I had a little trouble getting one of my shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

When I changed to bungee shoe laces before race, I should have put shoes on after changing laces & walk around in them.
Bike
  • 47m 2s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 15.86 mile/hr
Comments:

This is my best pace for the bike leg in a triathlon. My goal was to get >15mph and I did it. I felt like I was going strong, but I got passed up a lot. (I have lots of room for improvement)
What would you do differently?:

Practice more hills to get stronger and do more speedwork. Try and not get energy gel all over my handlebars.
Transition 2
  • 00m 40s
Comments:

This transition went by fast.
What would you do differently?:

Bring a hat.
Run
  • 30m 53s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

After the first mile and a half the heat started to get to me & I could feel that I was slowing down. At the water stations I would pour water over my head and I could feel myself cool down instantly.
What would you do differently?:

Wear a hat & put an energy gel in the pocket of trisuit to take at beginning of run. Practice more bricks (run after biking) Wear my trail shoes.
Post race
Warm down:

Drink a gatorade. Walk around & eventually stretch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I should have been better prepared to race in the heat and should have taken two energy gels (one at beginning of the bike & one at the beginning of the run) I should definitely wear a hat.

Event comments:

This race was so much fun.
