Run
Comments: Didn't get any sleep last night. Nothing, not a minute. So I was a bit dazed and confused when I got to the start area and saw thousands of people. Was really glad to find Tanya, Mat, Rick, and Shelley and woke up chatting with them. This was my first big road race. I wasn't familiar with the corral system. Picked the 10:00 one to be safe. I have no concept of how fast I run because I rarely know the distance of my training runs and then those are usually on trails. Should have picked a faster corral... I had to pass hundreds of people, both running and walking. Very few passed me. It was like an obstacle course. Almost bumped into people whenever I dozed off. I don't remember much from the actual race, only that I felt good on the first two miles and then when we got to the middle of mile 3 or so (on Rural Rd) I felt like hitting a wall... Had to remind myself that it was probably from lack of sleep and slowed down. Cruised to the stadium without pushing it after that. The finish area was cool but all I could think of was to get out of there and home to bed. What would you do differently?: Get some sleep the night before, choose a faster starting corral. Post race
Warm down: Walked up the stadium steps to get to some water, back to the light rail station, stretched a bit. Sat in the jacuzzi when I got home, then went to bed for a long nap. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of sleep. And for the first time I'm not writing "more training" here since I am pretty happy with my training right now. The race time is much faster than I thought I could pull off--even with sleep. Event comments: Nice race if you're into big crowds. It never really thins out since the course is so short. But race is for a good cause and a good reason to get out of bed. Last updated: 2009-04-17 12:00 AM

Watched the sunrise at the light rail station as I waited for the train to get me to the race. It was cold and I had to pee. Hopped around a bit. Lots of people going to the same race. I was well fed since I had a full breakfast at 3:30 a.m. when I decided to stop rolling around trying to fall asleep and just got up for the race. No sleep but a full stomach and strong tea was my race preparation.
Walked 1/2 mile from the light rail stop to the race start. Stood in line for the porta potties, chatted with Tanya, Mat, Rick, and Shelley.
