Pre-race routine:

Showed up two hours early, ate cereal before leaving house, grabbed coffee and bagel with PB at DD. Set up area and had time to relax before warmup
Event warmup:

Swam half the of the out with Coach Scot to acclimate in water, did light swimming as well.
Swim
  • 04m 52s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt good, most of the swim, got kicked in the face rounding buoy. Slight panic as my mouth was bleeding and messed up my breathing. Bleeding was not an issue going forward.
What would you do differently?:

I would try to get into a better position for the wave. Many people did not know what they were doing and were going nuts in the water and flailing.
Transition 1
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

Had a slight problem getting into clips, same as Wrentham. Need to practice more
What would you do differently?:

I took my time, and I need to become more efficient and realize Im not going to forget something
Bike
  • 54m 52s
  • 15 miles
  • 16.40 mile/hr
Comments:

I definitely want to work on hills more. Plan on attending some hill clinics on Wednesdays as much as possible, starting this week. I need to drink more too.
What would you do differently?:

I would drink and eat more on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

I didnt take my feet out of shoes off bike, came out of clips fully. I felt good, but still have to work on freaking out about forgetting something
What would you do differently?:

I would work to convince myself I am doing fine, and perhaps get an extra drink
Run
  • 24m 54s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Definitely could have ran better. Once I hit the footbridge, I was having some digestive issues, so I slowed down a bit to keep myself from having an "accident." Legs got a little stiff after the turn through the yellow gate, but the digestive issues were a larger concern. I also finished the race with Jocelyn, so that slowed me for the last few yards, but it was worth it. Ate 2 Powerbar energy gels through the run.
What would you do differently?:

I would research the course better, realizing there is grass. I also plan on monitoring what I eat, perhaps changing the Fiber one for the day with the digestive problems
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, seeing everyone. Should have jogged as legs tightened.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Digestive issues

Event comments:

The race started late due to wind issues with the swim buoys. THey couldnt help it,but I feel like they could have made the decision to shorten the swim much earlier. We were pretty cold by the time the start came.

Race got shortened due to buoy issues from wind. Not sure of actual distance, maybe 250ish?

Wind: Headwind with gusts
Course: Course was rather hilly, particularly the large hill before the Marathon start. Felt positive on hills in comparison with people I was racing near. Wanted to get good speed on downhill of 85, but felt like I was going to topple over from crosswind multiple times. Headwind on 135 was brutal. Ate part of fiber one pop tart and an Powerbar energy gel.
