Pre-race routine:

Hang with MI BT
Event warmup:

I was just getting into my wetsuit and I felt a twinge in the lower back. I didn't really think it was a big deal, so I jumped in the water and did a little swim warm up.

Comments:

Meh, it was okay. I ranked fourth in the AG, but it didn't really feel like a strong swim. I thought I had a fish to follow when I saw two dolphin tatooed on his back. I passed him within 100 yards. ;) My back felt fine through here.
What would you do differently?:

Sprint a little longer and find the fasted fish to draft. I did some solid drafting, but I could have pushed harder with a faster guy.

just ... okay. Back was noticeable when I took off the wetsuit.
Bike

  • 20.37 mile/hr
Comments:

I never felt strong on this ride. I think I got to aggressive with the new bike fit. I also think that adreneline was blocking some of the back pain. I stood up a couple times when I was passing. It helped to stretch a bit. I was really hoping to hit about 22mph for this leg. :(
Transition 2
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

This was a slow T time for me. I lost a shoe off my pedal, and had to go back to get it. Then when I got to my rack, my back was screaming. I wasn't looking forward to the run.
Run
  • 23m 56s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

Never felt strong, just like the bike. I did okay. Technically, it was my fastest 5k ever, but I have trained myself to a level to far exceed this number. My back was noticeable, but not terribly painful. My breathing was okay, and I didn't really get passed much. I didn't pass many folks either though. My feet were numb throughout the entire race. Even the whole run, I felt like I had Frankenstein feet. CLOMP CLOMP CLOMP

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My back. I didn't realize it was as bad as it was.

Event comments:

After cooling down a bit and chilling with MI BT, my back cinched up. I made it to the car and drove home with jgrindle, but an hour later, I was a mess. I've iced, IB'ed, and now I want some heat on it. I'm hoping to get it fixed up soon, because I have another race next weekend, and its in jeapordy at this point. :(
