Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30, oatmeal & coffee, packed up, grabbed bannanas and headed out to lansing
Event warmup:

Jumping Jacks, couple minutes swimming
Swim
  • 08m 34s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Damn Left turns, I swam way out of my way.
What would you do differently?:

more sighting- it was pitiful, but I felt smooth and fresh!
Transition 1
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

Not great, hit a cone. It was a pretty long run in my bike shoes-about 100yds?
What would you do differently?:

Not much, practice transitions I guess.
Bike
  • 32m 15s
  • 9.94 miles
  • 18.49 mile/hr
Comments:

I need to bike more, 37th is weak. I need to do more spinning with the crazywoman-Susan.
What would you do differently?:

Hit the bike a little harder. Overall I grade my bike average, but mostly because of where I placed in this portion. I felt good and was faster than i have been so at least i am improving. Bike is definatley somewhere I need more work.
Transition 2
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

I thought this was good, rubbed my feet-toes were numb.
What would you do differently?:

Get my feet out of shoes next time-more transition practice
Run
  • 26m 41s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Mile 1-really rough start with numb toes
Mile 2- still pretty tight legs
Mile 3-felt great, good pace
What would you do differently?:

Push more in second mile and start my kick coming home a little sooner
Post race
Warm down:

jogging, stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Other than just training more-which I certainly need, I need more swimming outdoors to practice navigation, Lot's more time in saddle( longer rides and speed work), and some transition-specific practice.

Event comments:

I thought this was a goiod race. Great for beginners, and great for a short first race of the year. A little cold for me, but what a beautiful day. We had a great time and will definatley look at this in 2010 as a perfect opener.
