Swim
Comments: My poorest swim ever in Olympic distance, the lack of training in the water from concentrating so much on the bike has done me wrong. Three and a half minutes below my normal time. What would you do differently?: Train? No brainer. Transition 1
Comments: A good t1, nothing went wrong at all. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Ok, I left t1 with a feeling of deja vu, four weeks before I did the Prairieman Half Iron in the same Lake and it was raining too. Three miles into the dam, I had a freaking flat on my front tire. I stopped and I thought there goes my dream of a PR. Fixed it, found nothing on the tire and kept on going, hammering a little to make up. The course turned a hilly one by mile 7, a long hard climb that left me pretty tired, after that it was alright I guess. Turning from Westmoreland onto Fort Worth Ave. I realized I had another flat, same tire. I decided to go forth and keep on pedaling (it would take me longer to change the tire than the time lost for going too slow). At this time I was frustrated and even thought about dropping out but I never did that, and I sucked it up. What would you do differently?: Be a little luckier. Transition 2
Comments: Spectacularly good t2. What would you do differently?: Absolutely nothing. Run
Comments: I tried to make up for the previous fiasco with a good run and by God I did. My legs were busted from hammering on the bike but I still ran my butt off. I was never passed by anybody in my AG while running. Of course, nobody had the issues I did on the bike. My second best 10k ever. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: As cold as it was, I didn't last too long in the place. My wife barely made it to the finish line because she left the house late but I'm glad she was there. What limited your ability to perform faster: A super poor swim and mechanical issues. Event comments: With the bad weather and the issues, it is definately a race to forget. Drove up to the AA Center's parking lot after being up for three hours, they had an emergency at work and I was on the phone until pretty much the time I checked my running shoes and glasses to T2.
Had a poor breakfast.
Justed walked around, looked at the pros getting ready, I saw them all.
