Total Time = 1h 21m 29s
Overall Rank = 50/270
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 1/18
Pre-race routine:

Ate half a raspberry muffin from Perkins. Yummy! Sipped water all morning. Took an Excedrin an hour before my heat. Relaxed in the pool-side lounge chairs.
Event warmup:

Did a little running on the grass to get my heart rate up. Paced and worried that Carrie would not be back with my bicycle in time. She made it just about five minutes before I got into the water.
Swim
  • 09m 42s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

This wasn't a stellar swim for me, but there was no one to push me in my lane. I loved the 15 second stagger; in a 50 meter pool, there wasn't a lot of jostling for postition. Only lapped one swimmer.
What would you do differently?:

I should have swam harder. I don't think 'average' is a very good race effort.
Transition 1
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

The transition area was really crowded. I had forgotten to bring a hand towel to dry my legs, so I dumped everything off my towel. That made a big mess. My helmet strap was twisted.
What would you do differently?:

Make all actions deliberate, think ahead.
Bike
  • 39m 47s
  • 12.81 miles
  • 19.32 mile/hr
Comments:

I was eating a gel for the first couple miles. Hammer Gels are really working for me right now, so I think any time I lost might have been regained when the sugar kicked in.
What would you do differently?:

Possibly push harder, but I'm pleased with the effort.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

I had asked Carrie to straighten up my transition area after I left. When I got back I couldn't find my transition area. She had removed my bright orange towel, and just left my running shoes and socks there. Took me a few seconds to find it. My running watch wasn't there either. Rats!
What would you do differently?:

If I had remembered my hand towel, I wouldn't have made a mess of my transition are in the first place.
Run
  • 29m 36s
  • 3.3 miles
  • 08m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt really good on this run! Thought my pace was faster, but I guess it was good enough!
What would you do differently?:

Run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Waited on the grass and watched the last runners come in. Sat around waiting for the drawing. Timing glitch made it so that we couldn't get our placings on the day. Played at the water park for over three hours after the race. SO MUCH FUN! Beautiful, clean water park. No lines for the slides, etc. etc. Yeah, I'm 12.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to work on my run speed over the winter.

Event comments:

Awesome job for their debut race! The facility is so clean! Loved swimming in the 50-meter pool. Loved the challenging bike course, etc. My daughters and I had a great time! Lots of post-race food right up to the end of the race.

Course: WOW! This was not a beginner course! It seems like this was a constant climb in both directions. There is a lot of winding about the town before you get onto a country road, but for the location it couldn't be helped. I loved this course, as I really enjoy climbing.
