Pre-race routine:

Ate a bowl of wheat checks and left the house at 6:30. The line to get into the parking lot was long, but since I wasn't driving it was nice to relax and think through things. I also took a few Advil that morning to relax the kink I had in my neck from Thursday morning.
Event warmup:

Thought about swimming before hand, but instead chose to stand in the water for 5 minutes. I figured standing around in the cold while wet would be akin to torture.
Swim
  • 12m 56s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

Since everyone started from the water, the better swimmers should definitely start in the front. I was afraid of getting clobbered so I wanted to start in the back. But I could have easily kept in front of the scrum and avoided swimming through the crowd.
What would you do differently?:

Start in the front and swim a little harder. I still had plenty of speed left but I was more content to just follow those in front around the triangles.
Transition 1
  • 03m 25s
Comments:

I struggled pulling the wetsuit off and I was unsure about whether I needed my number belt or not. I chose not to take it, but I probably should have just put it in the back.
What would you do differently?:

Sit down and pull the wetsuit off. I tried to do it standing and couldn't pull it off over the timing chip.
Bike
  • 39m 36s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.18 mile/hr
Comments:

I stink on the bike. I thought I had a good lead coming out of the water, but so many people passed me with their sweet tri bikes. The disc wheels flying by were quite aggrivating, but neat to hear. I just didn't have the leg strength to keep up a long strong pace.
What would you do differently?:

Train harder on the bike. Drop into the aero position and consider aero bars.
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
What would you do differently?:

Just be more confident that everything was going right.
Run
  • 24m 15s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

I was a little stiff coming off the bike and considered walking a bit, but never needed to. I think the hardest part was not knowing how far I had run. There was only one visible mile marker (1) and the turnaround which I assume was half the distance. Toward the end I think I was more concerned about finishing that really pushing myself. I really could have put more into the last half.
What would you do differently?:

Put more effort into the speed during the last half of the run. 5k isn't that far so maintaining a high speed should be achievable.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Muscle strength and training on the bike and desire to run faster on the run.

Event comments:

Nice and flat sprint.
