Pre-race routine:

I woke up early after a failry decent nights sleep and went downstairs to drop a deuce and get my PB & J going. I double checked that i had everything that I needed and pounded down a bottle of water. I knew that Hydration was going to be key today so I drank a lot of water pre race to assist in survival. Went to wake up the Michelle but she had other plans of sleeping in and driving out later to catch the start. Fair enough, I packed up the car and headed out.

I arrived at the Camp and got my transition areas set up. Drank more water.
Event warmup:

I did a fair amount of stretching and a short swim, but I knew that warmup wouldn't be important for me today because of the heat. Instead, i mingled with the Donks, Benson, Scotty, TriWI folk, ect...
Swim
  • 09m 55s
  • 528 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim went pretty well. Right away two guys jumped off of the front and stayed about 5 yards ahead of me. I was unable to get in and draft but still kept pretty smooth and in a nice groove. Despite being able to catch those first two, I did catch a number of people in the first wave.
Transition 1
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

all went pretty smooth and even had some surprise encouragement from Force as I came around the back end of transition. Everything flowed pretty well as I got my gear sorted out and up the hill and away I went.
What would you do differently?:

I would like to get a faster jump on the bike.
Bike
  • 1h 01m 38s
  • 22 miles
  • 21.42 mile/hr
Comments:

But seriously, I ride these hills weekly but the heat and the wind were something else today. I was hoping for closer to 23 mph, but considering the weather, I am please with the performance. Some portions of the course were still fairly wet too.

All in all, windy and hilly... not really where I excel and I was hoping for under 1 hour... maybe next year.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

Steep grassy hill down into transition. once again smooth as silk.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing,
Run
  • 25m 20s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Hot hot hot... that asphalt was a killer but I kept the pace as hard as I could and as I was withing a 1/4 mile of the finish I noticed Matt Amman about to pass me from 5 waves back so I stepped on it and practically sprinted so that he wouldn't catch me. He didn't and I pulled a 1st place age group out of my ass.

Good stuff
Post race
Warm down:

Eats, Chatting and award ceremony.

Also, it was really cool on the way out to see the 86 year old woman finish. Very inspriring and cool how everyone was going crazy cheering for her!

Event comments:

good times as usual.
