Pre-race routine:

Did not sleep the night before and this is not an exageration. Ate apples and cinnomon oatmeal with 1 1/2 bannanas. Can you say bathroom please! PACK THE IMODIUM.
Event warmup:

Where's the imodium?!!!!
Swim
  • 19m 12s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

Face was cold at first but warmed up fine. Had more water go up my nose than normal. Need to remember to breath out on my brething as I was a little bloated afterward. Went at an average pace. Did not push was just kind of hanging out.
What would you do differently?:

Get more to the front. Go more agressive as I could have decreased my time by about 2 minutes. This was not a hard swim.
Transition 1
  • 03m 37s
Comments:

Found my spot ok. I had a hard time getting the wetsuit off as it was wrapped around my ankles pretty good. Had to sit on ground to remove as I was a little dizzie. Had to place my bib on my bib holder again which wasted time. Next time pin to shirt.
What would you do differently?:

Pin my bib onto my shirt first. Use more glide around ankles. Make sure to baby powder socks.
Bike
  • 1h 25m 58s
  • 25 miles
  • 17.45 mile/hr
Comments:

I pushed my speed a little as I was passing a lot of people on the way up. Had a lot of problems with my gears as shifting was very bad. I was not sure my seat was positioned apporpriately. Ate part of a cliff bar on the way up. Was not overly agressive as I did not know what to expect. Downhill was a blast but found out how slow my bike is.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure bike is running at optimal levels and is lubed appropriately. Hold back a little for run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

I could not get my left foot off my pedals and my right foot recliped as I tried to get my left one off while still moving on the bike. Had to to be completely stopped to get my left foot out. I racked my bike in the wrong spot only to not find my shoes for some strange reason....hhhmmmmm funny how that worked (I had a group watching me and finding some great humor in my frustration - did make me smile). Once I saw I was on the wrong rack I already wasted at least 30 seconds or more. My shoes were pre tied and went on very quickly.
What would you do differently?:

Practice unclipping shoes while bike is still moving. Make sure I am looking for my bike spot trying to eye it before hand. Decide before hand if still going to wear glasses as I did not on the run.
Run
  • 59m 9s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

ABSOULTELY HORRIBLE! My strength was my weakness today. I was extremely bloated and stomach cramping from either to much food or too much water as I did not find my stride at all. When I tried to go faster my stomach hurt more. All the people that I passed on the bike were passing me on the run. Did run a little faster during the last mile and picked up my pace the last 200M. I should have easily knocked off 6 minutes as my slowest trial time was 8:34 minute miles. I drank very very little due to bloatedness. Did use water to dose me which was good. Did not comment on drinking amount as I really couldn't take much in. I did not feel tired after race but was just extremely bloated. I could have ran more.
What would you do differently?:

Eat something very small that will digest better or maybe nothing at all before the race and just hydrate a little more.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and drank Gatorade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Eating too much beforehand! Really did not drink anything before. This was my first triathlon and I had no idea what to expect. I should have gone a little harder in the swim and maybe a little less agressive on the bike to conserver a little energy for the run. Tune bike and make sure gears are working appropriately.

Event comments:

I really liked the river swim and could actually touch the bottom in a few spots. Bike is a little hard and run is a good course.
