Green Lake, Wisconsin
United States
Ripon Medical Center
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 38m 59s
Overall Rank = 24/88
Age Group = M3035
Age Group Rank = 5/10
Pre-race routine:

Not Much other than walking down from parking area and hitting the bathroom.
Event warmup:

none
Swim
  • 30m 44s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 03s / 100 meters
Comments:

Not a bad course and well sheltered (Green Lake is big and the other side can get quite rough, but this was sheltered). It was difficult to see the second buoy (>600 meters from the first). You could definitely do this course or at least the sprint without wetsuit (many did), but I love my crutch. At my slow speed it really helps keep me from dragging.
What would you do differently?:

Swim with a masters program this winter?; My time is slow for this nice course, but still much better than my 1st event.
Transition 1
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

I wear socks and refuse to race without them so it does slow me down on T1
What would you do differently?:

Very Little other than consider a trisuit if I got serious (I put on a jersey in T1)
Bike
  • 1h 16m 34s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.47 mile/hr
Comments:

Excellent course, but I was a little unprepared for the hills (10mph then 34mph then back to 11mph...); otherwise I pushed it much harder than my first race and it paid off until I realized the run had some major hills too...

Lost chain of front cog right near the end (almost close enough to just run) but I was able to stop and flip it on quickly (6-7 seconds)
What would you do differently?:

Drive out of town to get some real hill workouts
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

This is comparable to last race
What would you do differently?:

Maybe I will start doing the riding with feet on shoes bit
Run
  • 48m 46s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

Tough Run due to hills, but great weather (cool) and great shade from the trees
What would you do differently?:

I would definitely train more hills and do some extended runs beyond 10K that I did not really have time for
Post race
Warm down:

Short Walk, multiple bananas/waters/cookies

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Difficulty with hills; weight

Event comments:

Fairly well organized and in a beautiful setting. Road course was not closed, but there was little traffic and only one intersection was unmanned. Road conditions were excellent and 1000% better than my last race. I would definitely do this race again.
