Pre-race routine:

got going late as usual. left the house just before 6 with coffee and a granola bar in hand. got to the park at about 6:35 and had to hoof it to the transition area.
Event warmup:

the 3/4 mile brisk walk/run to the transition area was my warmup. got my stuff unpacked and set up, waited in line for the bathrooms, and headed down to the beach. i was debating whether or not to get in the water before the race. i decided to get in and im glad i did b/c it took a minute to get used to the water temp.
Swim
  • 07m 51s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

happy with the swim. haven't swam much in the past few months, so my main goal was to make it through the swim without blowing up.
What would you do differently?:

not much. my form broke down toward the end, but that's what happens when you don't practice swim form.
Transition 1
  • 02m 32s
Comments:

i thought this T time was a little slow until i remembered this includes the hill from the water to transition.
What would you do differently?:

pretty good transition for me. i did have trouble getting on the bike. i think next year i may try to start with my shoes on the bike so i don't have to worry about clipping in.
Bike
  • 36m 35s
  • 13 miles
  • 21.32 mile/hr
Comments:

i really had a hard time getting my legs warm after the swim. for the first couple of miles, my legs were burning and tight. i just tried to go with a smaller gear and a faster cadence.
What would you do differently?:

bike training was also limited this summer, so i'm just glad to have a decent bike split and not be over cooked for the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

did have some trouble putting socks on, but anything around 1 minute is good with me.
What would you do differently?:

i wish i could run w/out socks, but i just can't. maybe i'll investigate some tri specific run shoes.
Run
  • 23m 17s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

really good run for me. took a good half mile for the legs to start to loosen up, but after that i felt pretty good. i knew that if i could make it to the turn around in good shape, a lot of the way back was down hill.
What would you do differently?:

not much. i actually felt like i had some left in the tank, so maybe push a little harder the last mile.
Post race
Warm down:

ate lots of goodies and sat with the fam until the awards were handed out.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training this summer.

Event comments:

1st in clydes and a PR for me on this course. definitely happy with this race. huge turnout and well run. a good race to end the season with.
