Pre-race routine:

Stayed at the Comfort Inn for the second year. Nice, Frig, Micro, coffe maker, $71. Up at 4;45, coffee, then Kashi w/ yogurt.
Drove to the race site, about 15mins, was first in line for body marking.
Event warmup:

Lite run throught the run course, about 15mins, easy just getting the body temp and HR up.
Swim
  • 07m 51s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started on the inside in line with the bouys. Was agressive right off the bat taking 4-6 strokes before breathing. Short sprint to the first bouy. Fought off one guy as we rounded the bouy. then pulled back into a relaxed pace and recovered breathing...overall one of my better swims.

Had a good spot on the third rack from bike exit. Quick slip on of the RUNNING shoes, shades and helmet and was off.

Comments:

Really PUSHED it on the bike as this was my last speed effort before Augusta 70.3 this weekend. Maybe a bit over the top but wanted to see what I could hold and how I felt on the run after. Avg 22.2 in running shoes and baskets!! Love wearing the running shoes with the baskets for sprints as my transisions are lighting fast.

Run
  • 22m 23s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt the effects of pushing hard on the bike. HR was at max the whole run (lower 180's) and pushed 190 at finish. Tried to keep pace high for as long as I could but had to pull back a bit on the hills.
Still had good power ever after a really hard effort on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Lack of speed work showed, but been toing long efforts for Augusta so didnt really care, Overall happy with effort and how body felt.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, 2 bottles of H20 over head and drank some. Congrats to Michael Kitchens on his season and talked about Augusta coming up this weekend.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of speed work going into the race.

Event comments:

Second yr event. went from 140 total last yr. to 300-350 this yr. Would like to see them move up to the next level with better swag, dry tech shirt and awards. Tank top and medal a litte weak. Didnt really care for all the religious flyers in my race packet.
