Pre-race routine:

Ate two bagels with peanut butter, a bananna, and drank a bottle of water. Got to the TA early and found a spot one away from the end of the rack.

Got into the water a few minutes before my wave started to get acclimated to the water.

I had swam the course with a buddy a few times in the weeks leading up to the race so I knew exactly what to expect. I just took it nice and steady.

This was my first transition so things seemed hectic. I had sand on my feet and took too long trying to get it off with a wet towel.

Took time to tie my shoes and find/turn on my GPS watch. It took a minute to locate satelites so I was a good 1/4 mile away from TA when it started logging distance.

Turn watch on after the swim.

Started the run faster than I had anticipated but got into a good rhythm after a few minutes.

Warm down:

Met up with my family who was cheering me on the whole time. Then had a couple snacks and glasses of gatorade with a buddy who completed the race with me.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I paced myself because it was my first tri but could have pushed myself harder.

The weather was beautiful and was a great tri to have completed as my first.
