Swim
Comments: they pulled a dude out fo the water right next to me........i was worried for a while there.......it was CHOPPY..... i stayed solid and was pleased with my time... What would you do differently?: nothing. it was one of my best performances in open water to this date... Transition 1
Comments: i knew it would be long. the biggest part of teh bike for me was again, staying mentally solid. i hate cold, so i took time to put on some clothes... funny story..... my nose was running something fierce and i had snot all over my face when i got out of the water. i didnt care. a dude getting dressed across from me stops me and says "man you really got a lot of snot on your face, you might want to clean it up".......LOL......it's how i roll baby!!!!... :-) What would you do differently?: nothing. it went as smooth as it could go.... Bike
Comments: i just got in the zone and managed to pull away from a pretty serious pack fo riders right at the last 2 miles. it was a great feeling all things considered. i saw a guy hit a huge bump and lose a lot of equipment. no sooner did i dodge his stuff and then i hit the same bump and lost a lot of my equipment... What would you do differently?: not a lot.......it's kind of a cruddy course.... tie my equipment on better... Transition 2
Comments: another clydesdale who had picked me out as "competition" was just putting on his last shoe when i came in to transition......i got fired up......i got even more fired up when i heard him say under his breath "oh no".....i thought......"we gonna 'dance' brother".... i looked at him and said....."let's go run"..... i was feeling good and i could feel one of those "runners high" moments about to hit me... What would you do differently?: nothing..... Run
Comments: i just hit this motha trucka like a freight train.......the "freight train" was warmed up and fired up with gas in the tank.... i left with a huge group of guys and i just had the feeling like i could not be beat..........it was one of those days and i blew them all out the back What would you do differently?: run even harder!!!!..... Post race
Warm down: i was just flat out glad that i felt good all day and that i never questioned why was out there suffering........ Event comments: i have been on cloud 9 since yesterday. i never believed that i could place in this race..... i ran it two years ago and got beat to hell......meanwhile, last year i signed up and paid for the race and we had our beautiful baby girl come in to the world two weeks before the race so i no showed it. i was just excited to be back and doing this thign again. i never checked the race results. it just so happened that i was walkign through the festival and i was carrying my one year old baby girl and the announcer calls my name for first place. i got to hold my little girl as i walked to pick up the trophy. the announcer asked me her name and we were on the jumbotron for a few seconds. i looked out and saw my training partner and screamed like a fool, which almost made my daughter cry and then the announcer made a funny comment about some "drugs" i might have been taking and it was one of the best moments of my life...... i cant believe i placed in the Toyota US open triathlon..... i got my shirt autographed and pictures with Matt Reed, Greg Bennett and Sarah Haskins..... i cant believe i placed in the Toyota US open triathlon!!!!!!... :-) Last updated: 2009-10-12 12:00 AM

woke up at 3:00 am and caught the first shuttle to T2....which was a bad move..........completely disorganized.....
the bus driver let me borrow his cell phone and i called my wife and woke her up and she came to get me and drove me down to Joe Pool lake.....she hated me but is was the best move of the day...
none.....mental preparedness is the #1 factor.....:-)
the rain and weather had em worried...
