Pre-race routine:

So confused on what to eat when a race starts so late. So, had a normal breakfast and then Sport Beans about a half hour before the race.
Event warmup:

Found as many donks as possible so I could capture them with my lens. Ran about a mile and a half with Stacey (lunatick) so she could put some stuff in her car. I was sufficiently warmed up. Quick couple of cups of WELL water before the start. YUCK!!!

Comments:

In my dreams I ran with Stacey. She is super fast and I want to be too. Well, I hung with her for about 10 seconds. Then I just tried to keep her in sight. Mile one came and my watch showed 7:30...super fast for me to be sure. Mile two came and I was at 16 minutes, yeah, mile one kicked my arse. Just kept plodding along hoping to break 36 minutes. Didn't want to see Chris (tridds) at all as he started near the back of the pack. Well, he showed up around 2.5. Told him although I like him lots I really didn't want to see him. So, now that Stacey was way out of my sight, my carrot was now Chris. Well, you all know that Chris has legs that might very well be as long as I am tall. That plan flew out the window as well. I was able to keep him in my sights though. Could hear Dave's (djdavey) voice in my head..."knees up, shoulders back". This helped me run swiftly, I do believe. Saw mile marker 4 and knew I had to pick it up some more if I wanted to break that 36'. Goal reached. I "sprinted" the last quarter mile to hit it. Yeah me:)
What would you do differently?:

Drink some more agua.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked thru the finish tent, grabbed a naner, an oatmeal cookie and some water. The heat was awesome, but not so great for running lightening fast:) Waited for the rest of the donks to come in. Checked my results at the urging on Stacey as she placed 5th in her age group. Results posted showed me in 4th, but when I look them up on line I am 5th. Whatev, no biggie.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Me:)

Event comments:

Had a great time with the Donkey Nation. Drinking eating and laughing. Just wish the flaps were open on the tent.
