Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 45-49 male
Age Group Rank = 8/19
Pre-race routine:

I had various stuff for breakfast from the breakfast at the hotel. Arrived early at transition.
Event warmup:

Rode bike for about a mile, ran for about 1/2 mile and swam about 100 yards.
Swim
  • 16h 54m 8s
  • 656 yards
  • 2h 34m 33s / 100 yards
Comments:

Lined up in the center at the start because everyone else was either to the right or to the left and few were in the middle. However everyone converged at the first buoy but I dont know that lining up at either side would have helped. At about midway I was kicked in the face which knocked my goggles around and flooded the left side of them and I first tried to swim with it but then decided to stop, tread water and fix it. This really took away alot of my momentum. Not very happy with this swim. There was no improvement over last year.
What would you do differently?:

Work on my technique in the off-season to get faster. Stay to the outside for the start.
Transition 1
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Good transition but it was tough coming up the hill from the swim to T1. Heart rate was high.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 35m 4s
  • 11.8 miles
  • 20.19 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was good and the 2nd half was better than the first. I didnt watch my watts and only went by feel however I think I could have pushed a little harder.
What would you do differently?:

Pushed a little harder to try to get watts closer to full FT instead of .85.
Transition 2
  • 00m 42s
Comments:

Good T2 but did fiddle with shoes a little which may have cost me 5 seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Be more efficient with shoes
Run
  • 24m 19s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

I took the big hills in the beginning with only about 20 yards of walking to get my breathing under control but still managed a 8:35 first mile. After that I kept a very good pace and then I found an extra gear on the last mile. I was passing lots of people but none of them were in my AG until I found one on the last 1/2 mile and passed him.
What would you do differently?:

I am very happy with this run but in retrospect I could have pushed it harder sooner and done better.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water and walked around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My biggest limiter is my swim. I have to work on this in the off-season.

Event comments:

Tri The Parks races are always well done. Love doing them.
