Run
Comments: When I signed up for this race a week before leaving for IMAZ, I figured I may have to walk this race or do a modified shuffle. I ran naked (no watch) probably a good thing as I really didn't want to pressure myself about pace and time. The race starts on a nice downhill, I let tons of people fly by me. No problem, I'm out there to enjoy the day. Legs were feeling pretty good, but I could tell my heart rate was really elevated. I had my iPod and just listened to the music, concentrating on one foot in front of the other. By mile one I passed 3 girls of high school age....WALKING! Felt like yelling to them "I'm 2x your age and just finished an IM 4 days ago. If I can run a 5k, so can you!" But I remained quiet. People were passing me, but I wound up re-passing them on the up-hills. I wasn't sure if I could run the hills or if it was a good idea to, but what the hell...let's race! I see more people walking, wished I was wearing a shirt saying "I completed an IM on Sunday, what did you do?" LOL! Continued to pass more people on the down-hill and I can finally see the finish-line in the distance. I push the down-hill a bit more and finally hit the straight away and see 29:40 on the clock. I'm shocked that I can go sub 30 and sprint...crossing in 29:56! What would you do differently?: Maybe not do an IM 4 days before :) Post race
Warm down: I looked at the result and I placed 3rd in my AG!!!! I kept checking the results because I AM IN SHOCK! I have NEVER placed in my AG for any race! Last year my Turkey Trot was a PR of 26:39. This is my only race this year I did not PR, but I won an award, I am soooo pumped!!!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Ummmm a little race called IMAZ :) Event comments: I had a great race! Even without my AG medal, going sub 30 during my recovery is pretty damn good :) Last updated: 2009-11-17 12:00 AM
