Run
Comments: Tested an untested racing strategery, as I've never done this distance before as a stand alone race. Tried to stay a little slower than my previous week's 10K pace up until mile 5.5, then started pushing a little harder, then all out for the last 5K. What would you do differently?: Probably race this distance again, because I'm not sure what made me slower, the distance, my fitness, the weather, a combination. I think if it was a few degrees warmer, the start would have been easier. Post race
Warm down: Had some water and chewed up half a cold, hard bagel (bleh), stretched for 15 minutes and then realized I was starting to cramp up, so I jogged back to my boyfriend's place (another mile or so). What limited your ability to perform faster: Sounds lame, but: the cold! Event comments: Well, it's a run in Central Park, so you're not gonna get some amazing post-race activities. I'm just tired of the crappy bagels they give you at the finish line. Give me some chocolate milk and have done with it! Otherwise, a well organized, well attended race. Got up, had half a banana and some vitamins, stretched my ITB and every other muscle I could think of to try to warm up a bit. Headed out the door into the brutal morning cold (snow storm was expected later that day--27 degrees, 6 mph winds...brrr).
Ran to the event, nice and slow, probably about a mile or so. Got in line and stretched some more to stay warm.
