Pre-race routine:

Fairly lite breakfast to assist with GI issues of previous long races. Bowl of cheerios, small muffing, 2 cups of coffee. Took care of business without issues.
Event warmup:

Hay ride in trailer behind an SUV provided by race organizers. Shuttle bus had issues so 20 of us pilled in an imprompto shuttle trailer in 42 degree weather for a 2 miles shuttle trip.

Comments:

I seemed to nail my pre-race and during race nutrition. Gatorrade to start, carried and filled water bottle along the course to wash down GU and salt tabs. Consumed 4 Gu's, a few cups of gatorade, and 8 salt capsules. No cramping issues during race. Cool weather mostly resolved cramping but salt may have helped. No nature breaks althouth I could have been slightly more comfortable with one. No GI issues.

Last 5 miles was difficult to hold pace. Kept losing 5-10 secs per mile during that stretch. It felt like a 10K effort the last mile but the pace was not 10 K pace. Just could not move the legs faster.

Missed Boston 2011 by 29 secs. Bummer! A 29 minute PR takes the edge off though.

What would you do differently?:

Log more miles for training. Only did one 50 mile week. More M pace training runs. Focus harder on the run to hold pace in the middle of the race.

Post race
Warm down:

A little soup, Slim fast, and recovery bar. Only a small short cramp. Salt must have help as the I have cramped post race or during race in all other marathons.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

A bit more training as above. A small amount of weight gain, due to losing diet focus during the holidays after NYC Marathon.

Event comments:

Small mishap with shuttle bus scheduling, but it did not affect me. Parking just an issue at the race venue. Perfect size event. Enough participants to have good race support but not a crowded course. Easy to get on pace after the start.
