Overall Rank = 127/213
Age Group = M4044
Age Group Rank = 19/27
Pre-race routine:

I didn't sleep at all - believe it or not (overactive mind due to work), I was not thinking of the season opener because I knew I was much more prepared than last year.
Event warmup:

Scope out the elite athletes and sabotage their bikes with banana peels, put sugar into their gas tanks, fart into their cool aero helmets, spook them out, trash talk. etc.
Swim
  • 08m 31s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

I did okay on the swim. Could not get up to full speed because of the swells and chop.
What would you do differently?:

Go harder at the start.
Transition 1
  • 02m 27s
Comments:

Compared to last year, a really good transition. For starters, I wasn't winded getting out of the water and I did not waste time putting socks on etc. Also didn't finish strapping up my shoes until I was on the bike. This all saved time.
What would you do differently?:

I might actually start practicing transitions.
Bike
  • 36m 35s
  • 10 miles
  • 16.40 mile/hr
Comments:

A good bike ride. Getting better on the hills. I should have pushed a little harder but wanted to save my legs for the run. I enjoyed the ride alot.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push a little harder. My HR monitor would have been useful.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Almost ran out of transition with my helmet and gloves on :-)
What would you do differently?:

Ah, the transition was good. No worries.
Run
  • 32m 11s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Last year I ran this course in 41:40. This year I did it in 32:11.

That's 13:26/mile vs 10.23/mile or a 3:03 minutes per mile improvement.

That improvement was hard earned over the last year. I am very happy with this result.

If you could climb inside my body and understand how hard running is for me, you might begin to understand. I almost got a little lump in my throat just writing this.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I am going to continue working at running, and I would not be surprised if I get into the top 30% of the field next year.

Maybe turn on the gas in the last mile. I thought of this, but thought for a 45 to 1 minute improvement in my result, not worth it this early in the season.
Post race
Warm down:

I did a very measured race so there was no need to warm down. I was not winded of uncomfortable crossing the finish line.

Event comments:

I like this race, I hope to do it again next year.
