Pre-race routine:

Used my checklist and know of a couple additions for future use.
I ate some granola and yogurt and a banana @ 5 AM; drank orange FRS sometime after 6; and had a 5-Hour Energy drink @ 6:45 AM.
Shaved legs--first of the season.
Event warmup:

I swam a 2-3 laps; tried to keep HR down.
Swim
  • 10m
  • 525 meters
  • 01m 54s / 100 meters
Comments:

Tried to keep things calm, but felt heart race a bit and back off a little; I feel I stayed steady.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push a little harder or not wear the PowerTri top...felt a little like it created more drag.
Transition 1
  • 10m 29s
Comments:

When I got up to the spin room, there was only one spin bike with Look pedals available; a wave 1 cyclist suggested choosing a different bike. However, couldn't get the toe straps of another bike, so I went with the first.
What would you do differently?:

Have an allen wrench set to get toe clips off.
Bike
  • 30m
  • 16 miles
  • 32.00 mile/hr
Comments:

As far as you can go on a calibrated spin bike.
The CPU was sporadic--jumping between high 20s to low 40s, even at the same cadence (I felt); I kept it mostly around 31-32 mph (as they had it calibrated).
What would you do differently?:

See T1 comment
Transition 2
  • 05m
Comments:

Quick and easy escape.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 20m
  • 3.02 miles
  • 06m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Started at 8.5 mph, but quickly went up to 9.3 to hold with a runner ahead of me. I dropped it back to 8.5 in the third five minutes, but did the last five minutes back at 9.3.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Didn't do much...felt a little stiff after getting refreshments.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

See spin room comments.

Event comments:

It is a good start to the season...I'm feeling motivated now. Next winter I want to try to do all of them...maybe keep some stats on them.
