Age Group Rank = 130/148
Pre-race routine:

2 Eggs, bagal, banana, apple, gatorade
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 50m 15s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 23s / 100 yards
Comments:

course was choppy with a good current on the way back. I had a hard time navigating around turns and finding my way back to shore. A waverunner had to stop me and send me back in the right direction. I thought I swam in a circle at one point.

Was stung twice by jelly fish. On my right side and in the face.
What would you do differently?:

Better navigation. Practice open water swimming. Practice transition from swim to bike.

Use lubricant under armpits as the wetsuit caused a rash.
Transition 1
  • 03m 24s
Comments:

Happy with my transition time. Felt sluggish coming out of the water. I had a tough time getting up to speed once on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Do same thing but faster. Just practice.
Bike
  • 3h 23m
  • 56 miles
  • 16.55 mile/hr
Comments:

Really struggled on the bike. I did not have the energy & power I expected. I spent a good amount of time training on the bike and even got fitted for a new tri bike. Very, very disappointing. I wanted to average 18mph at least, but ended averaging 16.5.

I was being passed most of the day, which had a negative mental impact on me. I felt so slow I thought something was wrong with my bike, but it was just me.
What would you do differently?:

Work on swim to bike transition. I would like to use my legs less in the swim portion as they felt tired on the bike. Work on speed and possibly high cadence.
Transition 2
  • 03m 22s
Comments:

Felt sluggish coming from bike to T2. Legs felt like rubber. Took my time in T2.
Run
  • 2h 16m 49s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt very sluggish. I averaged 10 min miles while running and walked through each water/gatorade station. I expected to be around 9 min miles since I typically keep a 7:50 - 8:00 pace on long runs.
What would you do differently?:

A tough swim and bike setup a tough run. Practice swim & bike more and run should improve.
Post race
Warm down:

walked about 15mins, water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

poor swim & bike

Event comments:

Very well organized race. Race director, staff and volunteers did an excellent job.
