Total Time = 1h 16m 22s
Overall Rank = 18/244
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 3/17
Pre-race routine:

Left hotel at 6, bagel w/ peanut butter, banana, water. Got to transtion around 6:20 and got set up and then showed Tim and Krystal around. Made our way down to the beach and set up our shoes for the long run back up to transtion.
Event warmup:

Ran on the beach for about 10 minutes and swam out and back from the bouy twice.
Swim
  • 17m 45s
  • 547 yards
  • 03m 15s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim time is a little skewed because of the 3/4 mile run from the beach to the transition area. I swam pretty well. Didn't need a wetsuit, but figured I better use it to improve my time. After the swim took the wetsuit off and threw on my old running shoes and ran up to transtion. It was different, but very cool. Definitely a new challenge.
Transition 1
  • 00m 50s
Comments:

Wet suit was actually off long before I got to transition. Had to kick my shoes off and throw my helmet on and I was off. The mounting area was on a hill so I had a hard time getting my feet situated on top of my shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe put shoes on before mounting?
Bike
  • 33m 54s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 22.00 mile/hr
Comments:

Fun ride...not used to riding any hills, so this was a challenge.
What would you do differently?:

Need to ride more hills.
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

Dismount area snuck up on me so I wasn't able to get out of my shoes, had to unclip instead. Worked out ok, just wasn't able to run into transtion as I normally would.
Run
  • 22m 54s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

I was dehydrated, got a pretty good knot in my right hamstring at the end of the run (last 1/2 mile)
What would you do differently?:

Prepare better in the days leading up. Drank too much and my nutrition went to crap. I guess that's what happens when you are on vacation?
Post race
Warm down:

Cold wet towel on my head and lots of water. Talked to a guy from Naples for a while. We were even coming out of T2 and then he dusted me on the run.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Preparation in the week leading up to the race.

Event comments:

Super fun race. Different than any other race I have done so far, simply because of the layout and the geography. That run from the beach was tough, but a great way to test the athletes.
