Pre-race routine:

eat breakfast, get stuff together, take bike out of shed at homestay, discover and change flat! then ride to the race, set up transition and have 5 min to spare :)
Event warmup:

see above
Swim
  • 29m
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

first lap I was COLD! my arms were sluggish and tired.
What would you do differently?:

ok swim...I haven't been swimming much but really need to. I did ok here but I should be able to swim faster. I really didn't push too much...had to remind myself to kick. I really need to foucs!!
Transition 1
  • 02m 52s
Comments:

medium run from beach to bike. they had wetsuit strippers there so I used them. ran to bike, slipped all necessaries on and took off. 5/17 for T1
Bike
  • 1h 18m 53s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.90 mile/hr
Comments:

my quads were fatigued for a good portion of this. think I needed more calories too. again, wasn't real focused for this "race".

We were about 2 miles from the finish when a friend of mine I know locally from racing came up next to me - in my age group. We chatted on the way in and I knew I'd have to push a little on the run, as she is a phenomenal runner...she is doing IMUT in may, so I also knew she is close to peaking for that race. she also is coming off a PF injury, so I had that going for me ;)
Transition 2
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

ok transition. more focus would be good though. 3/17 here.
Run
  • 46m 57s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 07m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

just tried to keep Diane in my sight...did up until the last .5 mile and then she must have sprinted it in :)

pace stayed pretty consistent: 728, 737, 735, 734, 736, 732, 727. Avg hr was 165/ max 175. Guess I could have pushed harder but it felt pretty hard ;)
Post race
Warm down:

some stretching, easy ride back uphill to home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was a focused training day for me - so I wasn't going into it as a race. I had very little of that focus referenced above but feel like with some of that and being properly peaked and tapered I should have a good season opener in a few weeks.

Event comments:

nice race..guess it's shrunk over time, but it was a good race. didn't stick around for the post race bbq or the awards but I'm sure it was pleasant down at waterfront park.

I would do this again for sure next year.
