Swim
  • 15m 52s
  • 600 yards
  • 02m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

I thought I would do a little better here. My last 3 practice swims at the Y had been better than this. Partly due to nerves, I think. I'd never done a pool swim in a tri. Also, the timing mat was outside the building so lost a little time there.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Each tri I do, my swim time is a little faster. So just keep at it.
Transition 1
  • 02m 47s
Comments:

I suck at transitions - actually this one wasn't too bad. I knew I would be putting on a long-sleeved top so I put Body Glide on my arms before the swim and the top slipped on easily
What would you do differently?:

Start paying attention to faster transitions - I lose a lot of time.
Bike
  • 50m 49s
  • 13 miles
  • 15.35 mile/hr
Comments:

Wind made it really hard. I passed 4 people and nobody passed me. Although my pace was pretty slow, this was relatively my best leg. My BT mentor (he bikes in wind all the time) told me on-line before the race to Turtle-up Turtle-up
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to corner better and drink on the bike. I just got clip-ins a month ago and was afraid I might have trouble clipping in but that went ok.
Transition 2
  • 03m 31s
Comments:

Really bad. I had the second slowest T2. I just can't focus in transition.
What would you do differently?:

Run
  • 27m 59s
  • 2.8 miles
  • 09m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Run is usually my best leg but it wasn't today. My legs wouldn't move the 1st mile - got better later. I think the extra work on the bike because of the wind did a number on my legs. I passed one person and right near the end a woman from the previous swim heat (I'm pretty sure) passed me - she was pretty fast.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure - I guess more bricks - I only did 2 in training but didn't have a problem like I did today.
Post race
Warm down:

Showered and watched some of the faster guys. If I do this again, I'll bring my own post-race food (fruit doesn't do it for me). Stayed for award ceremony - got 1st place age group (only 2 in my age group). Drove home and went to smelt fry with my husband - ate too much - took bicarb and went to bed.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think my training is good. This was my 3rd tri and I'm getting better. I'm starting to realize how much my slow transitions are hurting me.

Event comments:

I had a blast
