Swim
Comments: Rank 24 of 42 Tried to start in the back of the pack. I noticed that just before the start, when I looked behind me, I wasn't at the back anymore. But I was still somewhat in the rear. Once we got going, I found myself bumping into people, others bumping into me. At one point I noticed I was almost right on top of another guy. Having only swam in a pool during training, this was a little different. I was able to find some room eventually and make my way around the bouys toward the shore. At one point near the end, I had to stop and rest. I floated on my back, did a little back stroke, then turned over and finished the course. Also, I did wear my swim socks. This was ok, but the right foot got a bit loose and was flopping around. What would you do differently?: Keep training and increase swim fitness. If I use swim socks, make sure to secure them better... maybe put them under the wetsuit to better hold in place. Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit got stuck on my ankles. What would you do differently?: Practice getting out of the wetsuit faster. Bike
Comments: Rank 33 of 42 Bike was good. Started to cramp a little in my hamstrings toward the end. Not sure if it was low hydration or lack of salt, but it wasn't too bad. Once I slowed my pace down, it went away. At end, I tried to get out of my shoes before dismount. Got one foot out and the other I couldn't. I had to run back down the hill with one shoe on. It was actually more of a brisk walk than a run. What would you do differently?: Drink a bit more. I still had some sports drink left at the end. I was supposed to drink all of what I had. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition. Nice and fast. No problems. Run
Comments: Rank 33 of 42 Felt the same hamstring cramps on my run as at the end of the bike section. Had to start out very slow (11 min/mi approx). But once my legs got a little rest, I picked up the pace to about 9:45 mim/mi. I made up some lost time and started passing up some folks. What would you do differently?: Bring some water or sports drink. I think ultimately, I was a little dehydrated after the race. I didn't drink enough on the run and they ran out of water at the aid station. Post race
Warm down: Walked around the post-race area. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not sure, but my goal wasn't to finish fast. However, I did better than I expected. I was expecting to finish around 1:30. I did much better than that so I was happy! Event comments: I'll try to do this race again next year. It was fantastic! I believe I'm hooked on triathlons now :) Note: My rank on swim was much better than rank on the bike & run. Last updated: 2010-04-09 12:00 AM

Race started at 4pm so I slept in as much as I could. I had to go to Chi's soccer car wash fundraiser from 9:30 to 11am. After that, went home and got ready to go. Ate egg whites and fruit in the morning. Yams, cliff bars, bananas and a protein bar up until 2pm. Drank water up till 2pm as well.
Not too much of a warm up. Just the walking from one area to another as I got ready to go into the starting area. Stretched my arms & shoulders a few minutes before the start.
