Pre-race routine:

5:15 wake up...or not, more like 5:30 - got dressed, took the dog out, finished packing everything.
6:15 - left for the hour drive, somehow convinced myself that I was running late and flew there! Ate a luna bar and drank some gatorade on the way.

7:15 -found a random parking lot (ended up being where the food was at then end of the race, score!) and walk to the shuttle, checked in my bag, found the bathrooms, ran into and introduced myself to diva! and tried to settle the nerves.

I was so scared of not finishing, literally I put my finish time as 3:12 lol

Event warmup:

Just some stretches
Run
  • 2h 33m 21s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

8:15 - found my spot in the 12 mile pace group... My typical pace is between 9-10 min. miles, but since this was my longest race and the farthest distance I'd gotten up to in training was 8 miles (whoops!) I decided to take the safe route.

8:30 - And we're off!! I had GREAT pace leaders, a husband/wife duo, who kept me motivated the whole time. I stayed right next to them most of the time even when I felt I could push the pace a bit, I decided not to test it. I'm really glad I didn't because I think if I tried for 10 min. miles I would have been out of breath by mile 8, instead I was all smiles and feeling great, and even found my parents!

I'm not one for the run/walk method, if I walk, then my body tends to shut down, so it was really key just to keep going, even through the water stations. I took a few chews at mile 8 too.

Got to mile 11, and taking my pace leaders' suggestions, I decided to push it the rest of the way. I felt great and passed tons of people!! Made the left on to college ave. and just sprinted with my hands up! Finished in 2:33:21

I couldn't believe I made it! If you would have asked me 6 years ago as a senior in high school if I could run a half mary, I wouldn't have even known what you were talking about(severely obese till about 4 years ago.) Had tears in my eyes and got big hugs from mom and dad. Ran into Diva and Doug for a team photo, and got lunch with the parents.
What would you do differently?:

Ran further distances in training.
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked around

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No running the distance enough or and being scared of running out of gas. Definitely took it easy since I was just trying to finish.

Event comments:

Organization was great, and course wasn't too hard. Post-race could have been more fun!
