Comments:

The swim felt great. Now that I look at my time I think the course might have been a little long but I also noticed that the pack seemed to be swimming wider than was necessary so I may have gotten stretched out with the rest a few times. My navigation was pretty good but my goggles were fogged most of the time and I had to stop and celar them a couple times.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe use some of that anti-fog spray in my goggles. I didn't even think about it when I was packing up my race gear.

Comments:

I felt like I had a good ride. I noticed my legs were not as strong going up hill but that is still due to injury recovery. I was able to keep a good high candece and a decent speed at that cadence. I loved screaming down thos hills. I would fly past people and then they would pass me back on the uphill...oh well, at least I'm on my way back.
What would you do differently?:

I don't think anything. It is hard to know if I would have held my pace down a little more if I would have been able to run stronger. I don't believe it woul dhave mattered much though, my run is pretty debilitated right now.

Comments:

As you can tell by my time I was slower than molases. Actually, the 13 minute pace I ran here is about the same pace I rean when I did a 38.5 mile ultramarathon earlier this year. My hip and lower back strenght seems to be mostly gone. I'm also not sure to what degree any residual injury may be limiting me. Even despite the slowness of my run it wasn't until mile 2 that the first Clyde passed me then two more passed me at mile 3 one more ant mile 4 and the final clyde to pass me was at about mile 5. It was difficult watching those guys go but I just could not respond. My race becamse much more of a mental challenge at this point but I finished as strong as I could.

On a positive note I was able to run mostly pain free and my gait seemed pretty normal so I know I am on the rebound and not still dropping. I wonder how long this will take to rehab?
Post race
Warm down:

I went straight from the finish line, stripped off my shoes and socks and got into the lake to cool down. I just could not seem to cool off during the run and the lake felt like heaven.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Still recovering from injury. In addition to the stiffness that remains in my hip I've list some cardiovascular fitness but what seemed worst in this race is a loss of muscular endurance in my hips and lower back.

Event comments:

It seemed that the drink stations along the run were a little too few given the heat, there were only two. I don't know if I would have fared better if I would have been able to run faster but I was having a heck of a problem with over heating and by the time I got to an aid station I was feeling pretty desperate.

Course: The course started with a mass run into the water off the beach. It is a kind of flattened triangular shaped course and is nice for the lack of wake and current in the lake. The water tempature was perfect for a wetsuit.

Course: This course is the hardest one in our region, which includes New Mexico and West Texas, no matter what the distance. The folks in Lubbock run a sprint, Olympic and the infamous Buffalo Springs Lake Half-Iron. Todays race was the Olympic so it included the two climbs to get out of Buffalo Springs canyon and the climbs in and out of Yellow Horse canyon.
