Total Time = 1h 25m 56s
Overall Rank = 126/220
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 21/29
Pre-race routine:

Oatmeal for breakfast.
Event warmup:

Swam 10 Minutes.
Swim
  • 12m 39s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

The mass start was chaotic. Everyone beelined the first bouy and tried to make the turn and it got really congested. I then worked my way to the outside and basically swam alone. Started to site on the kayaks instead of the bouys half way through the race and avoided congestion.
What would you do differently?:

Start on the outside to avoid the congestion.
Transition 1
  • 04m 48s
Comments:

This was a really long transition. After coming out of the water from the swim you had to run through a hotel parking lot, across the street, and into the bike rack area.
What would you do differently?:

Work on getting my suit off more quickly.
Bike
  • 38m 2s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 19.72 mile/hr
Comments:

Course was really pancake flat and very fast. Since it's a 4 lap course, there was always a little crowding going on. However, it was a closed course which made it very, very safe. Just had to be heads up on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

I could have/should have pushed it a little harder on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
What would you do differently?:

Remove feet from cycling shoes and ride with feet on top of them for bike dismount.
Run
  • 29m 20s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

I enjoyed the run course. It was beginning to heat up but parts of the run course was shaded and it made a big difference. They only handed out water at the aid stations but with it only being a sprint distance race I felt that it was ok.
What would you do differently?:

Push a bit more throughout the entire run.
Post race
Warm down:

500m swim

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Psychological factors hindered my performance. I held back because I didn't want to run out of gas later in the race.

Event comments:

This was a well organized, fun event.
