Overcast
Total Time = 1h 17m 41s
Overall Rank = 62/594
Age Group = M4044
Age Group Rank = 9/53
Pre-race routine:

Wake up just before 4:00. Waffles w/ peanut butter. Glass of milk. Coffee. Left house by 4:15. Took about 1:15 to get there. Park in big lot on sandy beach road. At site by 5:30 when transition opened. Got a premo spot in transition. Third rack from end on right side looking away from lake was M4044 for future reference.
Event warmup:

Started warm up at 6. 8-10min jog on the trail, 8-10 bike on road, 8-10 minute swim. Finished up right as they closed transition.
Swim
  • 09m 57s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

Lots of wind and chop. Hard for me to sight. Water temp was fine and I was very comfortable in the pack at the start for a change. I veered WAY off course to my right side. I wasn't sighting nearly enough and then when I did, I was correcting enough to get back on course.
What would you do differently?:

Learning to breath on the left and sight better.
Transition 1
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

Lubed up the heal w/ vaseline and used a shoe horn. Definitely faster. Took off wetsuit before crossing the T-line so swim time and T1 time slightly off. Still moving too fast getting clipped in and struggling. SLOW DOWN.
Bike
  • 43m 42s
  • 16 miles
  • 21.97 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
What would you do differently?:

I forgot to loosen one of my shoes. Lubed up the inside w/ vaseline but don't know if it helped.
Run
  • 21m 43s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Screwed up the watch so I had no idea how fast I was going. Purely on perceived effort. Still worked out.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank a bottle of chocolate milk.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sighting and staying straight in the water. All else was fine.

Event comments:

Really need more people on boats in the water. there were only a handful. Recipe for a disaster. Esp., given the wind and chop.
