Pre-race routine:

Got to transition early to get a good spot. Potty break, sit and look at the ocean until the start.
Event warmup:

Just stretched a bit while watching the waves before me struggle. It was a bit amusing to watch just because the second that they announced that they moved transition and the swim could only go one way my wife and I knew this was going to happen. Really poor planning. When will RD's realize people have a hard enough time swimming with no current, let alone a current against them. This race is meant for beginners and that was just a terrible decision.
Swim
  • 03m 53s
  • 1094 yards
  • 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not a very good run. Holding the wetsuit was annoying and I'm not very good at running on sand, but it was short. Really wish we could have swam.
What would you do differently?:

Not run with a wetsuit and goggles, but didn't have a choice.
Transition 1
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

good. hurt the feet a little, but no biggie.
Bike
  • 38m 52s
  • 14 miles
  • 21.61 mile/hr
Comments:

Pushed pretty hard. Didn't feel great and had a couple guys pass me, but seemed like a pretty solid bike for me.
What would you do differently?:

Just need to get stronger on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m 40s
Comments:

quick like a cat. Passed two guys the finished the bike ahead of me while they were racking their bikes. My transitions getting good.
Run
  • 23m 2s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

pushed it really hard. First third of run I tried to hold back a little and just make sure I was running as I felt a bit like I wanted to puke, but nothing too bad. Really struggled near the turnaround, but the way back felt really solid and really pushed it on the way back. The second half seemed significantly faster.
What would you do differently?:

This was one of my best runs to date and almost a minute and a half faster than last years. My running is getting better, but I needed to hold back a little more on the bike to have my best run. Still trying to find the right balance.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some water and waited at the finish line for the wifey, I knew she wasn't far behind me. After she finished we walked around and grabbed some liquids.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My muscles felt fine, but my HR is sky high and I just can't fully push myself cardiovascularly. I'm still relatively new to endurance sports so I'm hoping this will continue to develop positively.

Event comments:

This was really disappointing as a race overall. Last year I loved it and it was by far my favorite race. It was fun, festive, and just really well run and top notch. This year something happened and the race was a major disappointment in how it was run. Moving the transition was a major mistake as it was perfect how it was last year. Why would you risk not being able to have the swim based on the current? There was no music at the finish. There was almost no refreshments at the finish. Just seemed like a poorly run race. Very disappointing as I loved it so much last year....I won't be coming back if they don't make changes....shame. Wife and I were really disappointed not to swim...

Course: flat out and back. The course says 14 miles, but I think it was longer. I could have sworn it was the same turn around point as last year and transition was at the beginning of the boardwalk this year (about 1.5 mi. from last year's). Also, the avg. mph in the results says 22.4, but my time for 14 miles is 21 and change...so not sure what the real distance was. Perfectly flat, I love the course.
