Overall Rank = 95/766

Age Group Rank = 9/22
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:00, ate some cereal. Put stuff in car. Drove to race site (1 hr drive)
Event warmup:

swam a little since I hadn't swam in over a month. Thankfully it was a sprint tri.
Swim
  • 08m 10s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

I got a gentle kick to the face <20 yds in which was just enough to dislodge my goggles so I had to stop and reseal them. After that, they fogged up and I couldn't really see the buoys (the buoys weren't really good anyway). About 50 yds were really weedy near the end. Overall it wasn't terrible for not having swam for over a month.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my goggles are secure, swim more before the race.
Transition 1
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

The timing chips were HUGE compared to previous triathlons I've done so therefore I had a little trouble pulling my wetsuit off my left foot. Nothing really wrong other than that.
Bike
  • 30m 28s
  • 9.94 miles
  • 19.58 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt like I was flying so I eased up a bit to save energy for the run. Not the best idea I've thought of. Roads were smooth except for about 20% of it which was heavily potholed.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little bit harder.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Decided to put socks on for the first time in 3 triathlons I've done due to painful "week after" experiences with blisters. Probably only added 10s or less to my time so it was worth it. Somebody hung their towel right over my part of the rack so I had to move it over in order to rack my bike.
What would you do differently?:

nothing. Socks are worth it.
Run
  • 25m 11s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt nice till I saw my time. Definitely did not push myself hard enough. Not by a long shot. I set a 5K PR of 20:49 a few weeks ago so I should've been within 2:00 of that easily. I was paranoid about possibly having to walk like I had done during my first two triathlons, so I took it slow and steady. Bad idea. Beautiful course, though.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster. Much faster.
Post race
Warm down:

stretched, ate, drove home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Recent swimming experience, lack of hard effort.

Event comments:

Felt WAY too good Monday morning when I got up. Will definitely try to push harder next time. I had fun during the race however, and I think it was the best organized triathlon I've done yet.
