ran about a mile, swam a few strokes
Swim
  • 15m 35s
  • 800 yards
  • 01m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

Very frustrating swim. Usually I breathe bilaterally every 3 strokes. Quickly into this swim I felt like I was gasping for air and began breathing every one or two strokes.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more.
Transition 1
  • 00m 40s
Comments:

Good transition for me.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to jump on my bike.
Bike
  • 51m 25s
  • 18.95 miles
  • 22.11 mile/hr
Comments:

My bike computer said 18.95 miles and the race advertises it as 18.

Good ride for me. I had just crashed on Tuesday, so I went out a little hesitant, but settled into a good rythym. I had a weird experience on the ride. I passed a guy soon after making the first turn. Soon I could see his shadow on my wheel. He drafted off me for several miles until we reached the first hill. This was very frustrating. I probably could have drank more on the buke as it was very hot already.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more. Not come out of shoes too early.
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

I sipped a little water here which cost a few seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Drink on bike before transition
Run
  • 30m 38s
  • 4 miles
  • 07m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Wow. The run was very hot. The first mile felt very good. I hit the first aid station, grabbed a water from the first person and dumped it on my head. The last person had one gatorade and handed it to the guy in front of me, so I didnt drink anything, which really hurt me. When I hit the hills on the trail I slowed, even walked. Next aid station grabbed a gatorade and immediately felt better.
I was disappointed with the way I felt on the run, but everybody must have struggled as I looked at the results.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more
Post race
Warm down:

Ice towel felt awesome. Drink lots of water as I think I dehydrated somewhat.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of swim training.

Event comments:

I was hoping for 1:35, but that was using 18 miles on the bike leg, which turned out to be more like 19 miles. Given the extreme heat and humidity, not a bad performance.
