Pre-race routine:

MAV kindly let me stay at her house on Saturday night so I would have a shorter drive to the race site. Still stayed up a little late watching the TdF. Rise & not so shiny at 4:45. Bagel w/peanut butter washed down with black coffee. Out of the house in about 30 minutes.
Event warmup:

Found a place to park on a side street and biked over to transition. Set up transiton and then the waiting began. Not much warm-up except standing in Porta-Potty lines. Swam in wave 18 so over an hour to wait. Should have brought water as it got hot and I was feeling a little lightheaded before my wave started.

Very hard to get around slower swimmers even though I was on the outside. Ended up swimming about 2/3-3/4 breaststroke in part so I could see what was going on up ahead. Came upon a virtual flotilla of folks on noodles about half way through. Totally blocking the way. Nearly had to go outside of the kayakers to get around them.
What would you do differently?:

Start more to the front and outside.

I was about as far away as could be from the swim, took a few seconds to find my bike which was a lane over from where I was looking. Double back to bike exit.
What would you do differently?:

Take a spot closer to the entrance/exit even if its crowded. No set spots in transition just zones so kinda messy

Interesting my overall rank on the bike was higher than on the S/R but lower in my AG. Lots of speedy 50+ ladies out there (yes, I mean you MAV!!)

I bought a tribike this spring which I love. Unfortunately it was recalled due to failures of the front fork several days before my race. I rode my old Bianci. No aero, no drops but still an okay bike. Felt good on the big hill but HEAVY traffic and no one stayed to the right. Very messy trying to pass. I also had no data since my bike computer was on my recalled Felt and I left my Garmin in the car. Seeing numbers helps me to push myself more. I was a little disappointed with my ride pace but the crowded conditions didn't help any either.
What would you do differently?:

Ride my new bike. Maybe an air horn so people moved to the right? Ride more hills in training!!!

Very crowded again as there were bikers coming in and runners in both directions "sharing" the lane. Not pretty. Saw one biker hit a road cone and go down due to crowding. She was back on her bike before I got to her. Didn't really feel good until half way through. Took a lot of walk breaks but less on the return. Poured water down my back at the water stops which was a little refreshing.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks before the race to get used to running after biking. Learn to get out of my comfort zone and push harder.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It was very hot and very crowded. Although this is fairly well organized and very friendly event I do not think I will do this race again. It is too crowded to really enjoy it (and expensive!).

Event comments:

The last time I raced this course was in 2003. I was 45 years old and 10 minutes slower. A colleague teased me that I was now a "full deck" on my most recent birthday. I do feel like I have come into "fullness" as an athlete somewhat. I am still slow in all 3 events but can now do them all with some degree of competence. 2009 was my first full year of tri training in many years. I am happy to still be making forward progress and still be training regularly since returning to work this fall. BT has helped me tremendously in this regard.

Racing is hard. I have not developed the mental toughness needed to push harder in a race than when training. I guess this is partly what distinguishes one athlete from another. It is something I will continue to work on. I also find myself getting discouraged after the event is over. Even comparing myself to my AG doesn't seem to help. I need to let this go. I race because it gives me a goal and a focus for my training. Without a race looming I don't think I would train as much and I just need to be happy with finishing to the best of my ability. I also race as an example to my daughters, family, friends and patients. I think I am dong pretty well in this regard and need to keep this in mind when I am feeling down after a race. Any one can be active. It takes no special skills and believe me I am an example of that!
