Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:45. Ate peanut butter toast, a banana, and some orange juice. Drove 30 mins to race site and set up transition. Stormed all night but ended 5 minutes before the first swim wave began. All my gear was wet. Stood in line for body marking but the markers didn't even work in the rain.

Comments:

I felt like I was swimming a lot faster than my time shows. I'm usually an 8 minute/400 meter swimmer but there was a decent length run to transition so maybe that time was included in the swim? I think I was the 5th one out of the water in my wave of 50 though. Also ran into a huge ball of weeds floating in the water so I had to fight through that.
What would you do differently?:

Sight more often. Possibly swim faster, I'm just not ecstatic about the time.

I'm pretty happy about this transition. This was my first race and nothing went wrong. I even got the wetsuit off very quickly.

Road was wet with some puddles. Took turns pretty slowly so I wouldn't eat it. Passed a lot of people, only got passed by one guy but I didn't feel too bad about it since he had disc wheels and an aero helmet (so I figured he was a bit more experienced than I). Cruising speed was over 23 mph and pretty comfortable but turning and re-accelerating brought my average speed way down. Didn't drink any water.
What would you do differently?:

I need to do more bricks when training. Legs were tight right off the bat even though I was pretty comfortable on the bike. First mile took about 8:35 but luckily I did the next two faster. I can do 6 miles at under 7 minute mile pace so I need to get that to translate here to shed a couple minutes. Very disappointed in my run overall.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get more accustomed to running off the bike.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wish I would have trained more. Signed up 4 weeks before the race and wish I had maybe 2 more weeks. It's all about the bricks from now on.

I had a great time with my first triathlon. Pretty well put together race.
