Swim
Comments: The swim felt great, and I'm disappointed that it's not very much faster than last year's swim, which was a disaster. Looking at the top AG times, perhaps the course was a bit longer? What would you do differently?: I probably could have put more effort into the swim. I need to race the swim instead of just trying to survive it. Transition 1
Comments: Taking my suit off in the water has been a great strategy that I will continue. What would you do differently?: I have to remember to bring some water to the beach to wash off the sand. Bike
Comments: 2 seconds slower than last year. Last year after a horrible swim, I was really pushing the bike leg to make up time. This year it was more of a typical race effort. What would you do differently?: I need to go all out and really hammer the bike leg in order to get as far ahead of the fast runners in my AG. Transition 2
Comments: T2 went well, 3rd in AG. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: First mile was 8:08, and it looks like I wasn't able to speed up the second half. The run times were slower than last year, probably due to the heat and humidity, which was noticeable. I got passed by three guys in the AG, who all ended up with the medals. What would you do differently?: I need to race AG guys when they pass instead of just trying to stay steady. Post race
Warm down: Lots of walking around. I did a good job of stretching this time. What limited your ability to perform faster: I need to think of a race mentality more than a going hard mentality. I havent' spent as much time training this year, particularly in the run. Event comments: The lake swim can be challenging, and the run from Lake Michigan to T1 at the Grand Haven YMCA can throw you for a loop if you're not ready for it. The bike and run courses are great, though the hill at the end of the run is a monster. Last updated: 2010-07-08 12:00 AM
