Age Group Rank = 4/7
Pre-race routine:

Set up transition.
Event warmup:

Short swim in Hagg Lake.
Swim
  • 32m 38s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 11s / 100 meters
Comments:

I was distracted by other swimmers - two loops caused us to jam up a bit.
What would you do differently?:

Stay focused. Start in front or wait for a gap.
Transition 1
  • 02m 27s
Comments:

Longer run from shore to bike increased transition time (fastest was 1:49). Took a bit getting my socks on wet feet.
Clipless pedals will help a lot for transition and bike.
What would you do differently?:

Towel dry feet while putting on helmet and shades.
Bike
  • 1h 17m 58s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.12 mile/hr
Comments:

I pushed it hard on the bike, but it was comfortable. I was passed on hills and passed others on declines and level stretches.
What would you do differently?:

An upgraded bike would be the biggest help - currently using a Kobe Steel Frame (too small for me) with friction shifters - definitely not ideal. I'd also get a saddle bag, strap the pump to my frame, and carry water bottles (no cages on current frame) instead of a hydration pack.
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

Currently wearing running shoes on the bike (using toe clips) so transition time doesn't require changing shoes.
What would you do differently?:

When I get clipless pedals I'll practice T2 prior to race day.
Run
  • 48m 29s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

I pushed the pace. During a couple up-hills of the first three miles my legs tightened up a bit.
What would you do differently?:

A faster cycling cadence may help. Diet? Training?
Post race
Warm down:

Short swim in Hagg Lake.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Everything above plus more training and equipment upgrades.

Event comments:

Only evergreen toilets...
